Back to the rush of Theatre

So this semester started off pretty slow. Going to school like usual, getting off pretty early for the most part.. getting home at 6 at the latest. But of course I knew that in the shadows and darkness, the inevitable Carousel would be creeping.. ready to devour those of us brave enough to dare its embrace. I was assigned "Props Mistress" for the show. I figured I would help out in the shop with making and acquiring of the much needed props and be present in later rehearsals and shows. Little did I know that my care free school days were about to take an ugly turn into a spiralling mess of chaos! The first couple days were alright.. I talked with Darryl (the official Props Master) about reasearch and some simple stuff. One day when we had a scheduled meeting i waited for about an hour and half. After walking up and down the theatre halls I finally was in a rage and simply left. If he was going to waste my time.. I was going to waste his! The next day I was complaing to Liss (the Props Assistant) and I was shocked to find out that Darryl was in the hospital for an Appendisitis (sp?). That could mean only one thing... Liss and I were now responsible for making sure we got all the props. And we didn't even have most of them yet.. probably not even half!! We got serious and got working. Tech week reapifly approached (like two days after the whole Appendisitis tragedy) and we spent the weekend in the shop working... from 10 to 11. For the next week we spent any free time working. Before classes, between classes, after classes, sometimes even during classes. We were so behind, there was so much that needed to be done! And no matter how much we did and what we did.. Michael (the tech director) generally made us redo it or change it.
Us: "Ok Michael.. its done. What do you think?"
Him: "Hmm..." **examines it** "I like it.. But i was thinking more on the lines of ..... Why don't you do this instead."
Us: "Alright!" .. **walk away together... mutter mutter**
Not only did I have school, worked my butt off in the shop to get stuff done, but I also was in rehearsals. That's right! I awoke every morning at 7 to get to school... spent time in class... worked in the shop.. and then was in rehearsals till about midnight. Getting home around 1 going to bed at 1:30.. then starting the process all over again. I was so incredibly tired. I don't ever remember being so tired before. I even had plans to sleep in my car one afternoon before rehearsals.. a nice 5 hr nap. But my dreams were crushed by the sharp pang of Michaels whip and the reality that the show was in two days.
Joyfully Liss and I, along with the help of {JESUS} and the other students, we were completed with all the props before opening. But we had to fight for that joy.. for some tried to steal it away..... To Be Continued ;)
