I'm a Christian... PERIOD!
I don't really know how often I'm asked what religion I am but I'm always more than happy to answer. But what really irritates me is when I reply that I'm a Christian I get asked,
Person: "Well.. what are you?"
Me: "Uh.. didn't I already answer that question? I'm a Christian."
Person: "Yes you're a Christian. But what kind of Christian."
Me: **thoroughlt irritated** "I'm a Christian..."
Person: "I know you're a Christian, I mean what denomination."
Me: **sighs from frustration** "Like I said before, I'm a Christian... PERIOD!"
Person: "Well what church do you go to?"
Me: "Oh i got to three different churches. I got to a Pentecostal church, a Methodist Church, and a Non-denominational Church"
Ok.. I really can't stand denominations. I mean, really, what is a denomination? According to the dictionary a denomination is defined as: "A large group of religious congregations united under a common faith and name and organized under a single administrative and legal hierarchy." Also, it's said to be "a group of religious congregations having its own organization and a distinctive faith." Now I ask you.. how many "Denominations" of Christians are there exactly? Let's see we have: Baptists, Southern Baptists, Methodists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Science, Ammish, Quakers, Orthodoxes, Lutheran, Assembly of God, Church of Christ, Mormons, Roman Catholics, Catholics, Presbyterian, and well.. the list goes on forever. So what I'm thinking is that aren't Christians supposed to be the body of Christ? I mean it's there in the Bible... 1 Corinthians 12:27 - Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And then there is the passage, Matthew 12:25 - And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. So to me I'm thinking..Christians are the Body of Christ and figuratively speaking we are a house, a kindgom, a family, a body. In Matthew it says that if these things become divided, they cannot stand. Therefore.. as Christians, as the body of Christ we are being divided by these "denominations" and unless we unite we are pretty weak.
Wow.. that took a totally different turn that what i was expecting. But I really dislike denomination because well... I feel that a denomination springs up because of a man's (meaning Mankind) wants to do something his own way and instead of praying and asking the Lord what is right he will leave and along with him some people will follow. And perhaps it is ok to change sometimes. We are a changing race and the world does change. I'm not saying we should change like the world changes, but we should adapt as long as we are still in the Lord's will. So in a lot of these denominational churches I see instead of the Lord's Word being taught, I see Man Doctrine. What is that about? I don't want to follow what Man wants me to do, I want to follow what the Lord wants. In the end, His judgment and word is what prevails anywho. So I don't follow denominations because well.. I'm a Christian, I'm a child of God and that's all that matters.
P.S. Oh by the way.. Non-denominational is a denomination. Stop lying to yourself. If you want to really be Non-denominational just call yourselves Christians. :)
