Roosters, It just ain't right!

So in my Play Analysis class we had to get into groups of 3 and choose a play to do a presentation over. The three people would then be classified as the Director, the Designer, or the Dramaturg. Of course I became the Designer! Yeah I was quite excited, still am actually. I just am not too fond of the play we have to do. My group decided to do the play "Roosters" written by Milcha Sanchez-Scott. Now as I started to read this play I found it to be quite interesting, and soon after I was simply and utterly appalled!! I mean this play has some of the worst language in it and an over abundance of sexual conotation. I have never heard the phrase "hippo lips" and the idea just gives me the chills. Incest!! Incest!!! Ugh it's so grotesque! Not only is it gross, but there are a couple parts that really don't fit in the play. First of all, there are a couple of scenes when guys come out dressed in rooster outfits and dance around. Yeah, how corny and lame is that! I saw a picture of it once. It's Insanely moronic looking! A bunch of grown men running around in retarded chicken suits! What the heck was Milcha thinking?! Secondly, at the end of the play, the daughter goes through this spiritual growth and levitates off the ground. When you are reading the end, you get totally confused. When I finished I was like, "Man, what in the world just happened!!?" I'm telling you, its psychotic! I don't know what she was "on" when she wrote this play, but it really bites! Oh well. I'm having fun anyways designing costumes and the set.

Busy and Lack of Sleep, A Deadly Combination

I can't believe I haven't written in a while. Yeah I've been quite busy indeed. And I mean BUSY!!! Of course my school schedule really isn't that bad at all. Plenty of time to come home, eat, do homework, play with my ferret, hang with the family, go to church, and get plenty of sleep. Of course I knew it would be coming.. the month of April! Wow! Right after Spring Break, my world became totally turned around. Along with usual classes I have rehearsals for the play we are doing at UNT, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." I'm not actually in the play, I'm on the running crew. I'm in charge of Stage Right props which consist of a couple cigarettes, a glass of tea, a glass of milk, a pocket watch, a wooden mallet, and a block 'o' wood. Yes, that's right, A block 'o' wood. Now my job isn't that big so during rehearsals the Assistant Stage Manager has me sit with the director and take notes for him. It isn't the most thrilling job, but I do get to kind of interact with the actors a little bit when I hand them their notes. And some of the cast are way cute! Especially Karl, he plays the character Brick. **smiles** So rehearsals have been from 6:30 till 11:00 pm. So that means I get home between 12 and 12:30. I really wouldn't mind it so much, but I have to get up at 7:45 in the morning. And of course it's not like I get to come home during the middle of the day, I have to stay up at campus all day! Eating nothing but sandwich's and chips gets quite boring and dull quick. So not only am I lacking sleep, but I'm getting malnutritious. (spelling?) Now I actually love doing what I'm doing. I love teching, I just wish I could get some sleep. It's pretty sad. I sit in class and just stare at my teachers. I'm too weak to do anything and I just don't want to. It's really bad. I didn't even have any time to study for my Astronomy exam. Gosh I hope that went alright. Well, I felt so bad because I didn't have enough time and had to ask my mother to do my laundry and take care of my ferret. I hate asking them to do stuff for me. I really do. But my Dad says I've done a good job of transitioning to my own independence. I'm independent? When did that happen?

Well the show finally started on Thursday and what a turn out. There were quite a few people who came on Thursday and Saturday night, but only a handful showed up on Friday and Sunday. Oh well, So far I think the cast is doing great! I'm glad I could be invloved with this production. I've made more friends and strengthened the already existing friendships. Perhaps I can get a relationship out of this one too! Fwa Fwa! I mean Karl is way cuters! Sometimes when he's on stage he has to stand on the corner Stage Right, which is where the assistant stage manager and I sit. Well when he is standing there, sometimes he glances over and I give him a big smile. It's so funny b/c he smiles back and once, he got so embarrassed he blushed and had to turn away. hehehe. Oh well.. we'll just see what happens.
