The Bird
It was a nice bright shiny day. You know.. one of those where you lay in the grass, staring at the sky while all your cares floating away in the breeze. I walked calmy and nonchalantly into my comfy home, happy to be back from school and looking forward to my plans for the day. My cute little dog Buster greeted me at the door. We were both unaware of the imminent horror that would soon befall is. I patted his head and we headed towards the kitchen. Then like a bat out of hell a black streak screams across the kitchen, darts through the living room, and dissappears into my parents bedroom. "What in the world!" I thought. I quickly dropped my bags and ran to the room in search of the thing. I stood in the doorway and peered in. I couldn't find a thing. Silently I stepped across the threshold to get a better view. As soon as I spotted it the small grey bird jumped off the curtain rod and soared into the bathroom. I ran back into the kitchen, thoughts flying through my head, "OMG.. there is a bird in the house.. how could it get into the house!? How am I going to get it out? **looks at Buster** Why didn't you say anything?!" As I pondered the challenge that sat before me the phone rang.
Me: "Hello?"
Kelly: "Hey it's me!"
Me: "Hi Kelly. What's up?"
Kelly: "I'm just calling to let you know I can't come help plant flowers. I have to work."
Me: "Oh ok. That's kewl. I totally understand. Hey guess what."
Kelly: "What?"
Me: "There's a bird in the house."
Kelly: "There is!? Wow! Hey we had a bird in our house once. To get it out I threw a shirt on it, picked it up (gently of course) and then took it outside."
Me: "Say.. that's a good idea. Better than waiting 3 hours for Dad to get home. Hey there it is now. It's in the kitchen."
**The Bird eyed me curiously and then takes off. It dives bomb towards me. I can't run.. I'm on the phone. I shriek and duck.
Kelly: "Whoa! hey.. well yeah.. just be sure you are really careful when you pick it up."
Me: "Ok.. thanks. Better get him before he attacks again."
Kelly: "Good luck. Bye!"
I hung up the phone and looked around quickly. This was now war. I had been attacked by the bird, in my own home. I gathered my soldiers (Buster) and we went over Mission Bird Take Down. Buster's job was to locate the bird, keep it in his vision, and warn me. I grabbed a shirt lying on the floor. My job was to seize and to capture. We walked through the main parts of the house with no bird in sight. Stealthly we headed back to the bedroom. **Flash** It flew across the room back into the bathroom. Buster was in action. He chased the bird and cornered him in the closet. But it was too fast and too crafty. It dive bombed us, it was either do or die. We ran! The bird fluttered around the bathroom for a while and then headed back into the kitchen. For about 15 minutes we played cat and mouse.. err... Dog and Bird. :) The little finch would hide beneath beds and in small corners. I was afraid for a while that I'd have to call in reserves (that would be Vamp my ferret, she likes anything that moves). But Buster is a good bird dog and could flush it out of anywhere. After many attempts and failing I thought the bird had done us in. We just couldn't catch it. But soon it began to make mistakes. It got lazy.. it got sloppy. Instead of landing on tables, or curtains it began flying into mirrors, into windows, and into the walls. Buster had exhausted it. The Bird made it's final attempt at freedom. But the bathtub is not a safe zone. It sat there, a little missle ready to explode. We had to capture it. I threw the shirt. Nothing. Was the enemy caught? I look at the shirt for a moment. Nothing was moving. Slowly i reached out and poked the shirt. **Flutter Flutter** AH HAH!!! We had won!! Gently I scooped up the frightened bird in the shirt and headed out the door. Buster strutted before me, knowing he had done a good job. Perhaps he need a promotion. We walked outside, set the shirt on a table. Now i had to do this in a way to keep the bird from darting out and slamming into me or the house. I took a small end of the shirt and flipped it. Like lightning the bird shot out of the shirt and hid in a near by tree. Mission Accomplished with no casualties.
